Dealing With Grief

I know today is a tough topic, but I also know some people are going through this right now.

I’m going to tell you a story.

I used to play soccer. My two all time favorite coaches were Coach McG and Coach Billy.

Coach Billy is the father of my amazing friend Grace.

Now I do summer swim team, and a few of my amazing friends do it with me.

Specifically Grace. At every home meet, Grace’s dad would help everywhere he could at these meets–particularly greeting and parking. At every meet he was the first person you would see.

When I heard on the first day of class that he’d passed away, it was a hard time for me.

If I’m honest, it still is.

When you are in a time of grieving, it’s important to remember these things:

1.   It 100% sucks. But just because it’s dark right now, doesn’t mean that the sadness and darkness has to control you.

2.  God loves you so much.

3. This moment, this time of heartache–it will either strengthen you or weaken you as a Jesus follower.

4. Someone out there is going through the same thing.

5. God still loves you.

Even though we are consumed by darkness at times, that doesn’t mean that the sadness has to be everything.

You are LOVED.

You are NOT ALONE.

you are INCREDIBLE.

You are LOVED.

Even in grief.

Even in pain.

You are not forgotten by God.

Psalms 147:3 “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.”

Deuteronomy 31:6  “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.””

You are PRICELESS!

NOTE FROM TABITHA: While dealing with grief is awful, it hurts almost as much to see someone you love suffering.  Take the time today to tell someone you love them.  Give them some encouragement, and then pray for them.  Even if you don’t know for sure what they’re going through at the moment, it NEVER hurts to be encouraging and to be a listening ear.  And yes–those emojis are a unicorn and a taco.
