Remix: Country Time Lemonade (Not A Sponsor)

I know a remix is when you put your own spin on a song.  Not when you just re-publish the exact same song. BUT OH WELL. I was reading through our old blog posts and came across this one.  I really like it and it’s been awhile, so let’s reread it.

“Country Time Lemonade (Not A Sponsor)” was originally published November 28, 2016.

Hey everyone.  Tabitha here.  Something you may not know about me is that I live in a rural county in the middle of the woods, I go to a country church established in 1895, and I have an awesome youth leader who is masterful at spinning stories and illustrations.  (Check out my post about youth leaders here.)  Said youth leader is currently leading us in an apologetics study.  He told us that many churches are watering down the truth.

“It’s like this,” he said.  “Let’s say I give each of you a cup of good, pure lemonade.”  He mimed taking a swig.  “Good Country Time lemonade.  Straight from the lemon.

“Now you all have drank about half of your lemonade.  Oh, would you like some more?  Here.  Now I take a pitcher of water and fill the cup back up–so it’s half lemonade, half water.”

We all started wondering where he was going with this.

“And you take another drink–ahh!  Good country time lemonade.  Well–not really.  It’s not quite as strong this time.  But it’s still good.  You can still taste the lemonade.  So you drink half the glass.

“Would you like some more?  I take the pitcher of water and fill it up halfway again.  Now it’s still got some lemonade in it, but it’s mainly water.

“This cycle continues on and on.  And this is what a lot of churches have started to do.  They may start with the truth.  But then they start watering it down.  Maybe the church is trying to be more ‘cool’ or attract more people.  But either way, they’re watering down the truth.  Before long, there’s no lemonade left, so to speak.  It’s all water.

“It’s important not to water down the truth.  The Gospel doesn’t change, no matter what’s cool or popular.  We should be preaching it in spite of everything.”

Then he said, “Who wants to take home this extra pizza?”
